S. 23 would designate about 32,000 acres of land and inland water within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Michigan as a wilderness area within the National Wilderness Preservation System. It would set the wilderness boundary as 100 feet from the centerline of adjacent county roads, and 300 feet from the centerline of adjacent state highways. The bill has bipartisan, bicameral support, and is expected to pass the House under suspension of the Rules on March 4. If passed, the President is expected to sign the bill into law.
