How does Votetocracy respect your privacy?

Here are the basics: Much of what is described here applies to most sites on the internet. Or at least the honest sites on the net.

Before you register: We collect data about clicks, what website you linked to us from. This information is in no way tied to you specifically since before registering we don't know who you are. We use this information to analyze and improve our traffic.

After registering: After you register and provide us with your name and other information we save that to our database. We do this so that we can serve all of the features the site offers. What is important to know is that we will show your votes on the site. If you wish to remain anonymous, we've got you covered. What you need to do is choose a screen name (during the registration process, or in your profile). Be sure to choose a screen name that doesn't identify you if you do want to remain anonymous. Example: your name is Benjamin Franklin. Choose if something like "BenFrank" gives a pretty good clue as to who you are. So try something more, well..... anonymous. The only other thing you have to do is click the "keep private" check box during registration or in your profile after registration. This checkbox tells us to use your screen name instead of your first and last name. Other than that - there is no way we are going to publicly show your info.

Facebook connect: There is a feature on the site that allows you to connect with your facebook account. We strongly encourage this. Here's why: The feature pulls in your profile into votetocracy. Each time you vote we will ask you if you want to post the vote to your facebook account. Imaging how powerful this can be! All these people sharing there votes on facebook and their friends seeing the issues and votes. Of course, if you feel that you do not want to tell all your friends how you feel that is up to you. If this is the case, no problem, each time you vote (if your are in fact using the Facebook Connect feature - you'll know because you will have clicked on it in order to login) we'll ask you if it is ok to share your vote on Facebook.
